Executive Director of Business Operations

Job Overview

The Executive Director of Business Operations is responsible for establishing and executing a centralized business services strategy within the Office of Information Technology at Boise State University. This role focuses on enhancing consistency, operational efficiency, and scalability across financial and business functions aligning with both OIT and institutional goals.

Department Context

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this newly created position guides the formation of an OIT Finance and Business Services division to support the long-term sustainability, effective resource allocation, and operational alignment of Boise State's technology services.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead comprehensive financial oversight including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and in-depth data analysis.
• Coordinate integrated annual planning for programs, infrastructure investments, services, and vendor management.
• Develop and maintain financial dashboards and reporting tools to facilitate strategic decision-making.
• Implement standardized processes ensuring data integrity, internal controls, and policy compliance.
• Manage portfolio-level review of OIT services, optimizing cost efficiency and service sustainability.
• Design resource allocation and pricing strategies that enhance fiscal effectiveness.
• Utilize enterprise systems and AI technologies to refine financial visibility and accuracy in forecasting.
• Form and lead a centralized OIT Finance and Business Operations team focused on transparency and collaboration.
• Communicate budgetary complexity across departments to support the University Budget Model.
• Drive organizational change by redesigning workflows and implementing automation and AI solutions.
• Resolve complex cross-departmental challenges by fostering alignment across OIT units.
• Establish partnerships with university financial, procurement, and sponsored projects offices to ensure policy compliance and institutional cohesion.
• Lead integration of operational and financial data across multiple systems to enhance reporting capabilities.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree with at least eight years of relevant experience, including a minimum of three in managerial roles; Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• Proven expertise in managing financial and business operations in complex organizations, especially within higher education, IT, or public sectors.
• Strong analytical capability to translate complex data into actionable business insights.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication abilities aligned with change management and process improvement.
• Experience using financial reporting and analytic tools such as Oracle, Power BI, or similar platforms.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual starting salary of $108,014.40 commensurate with experience.
• Comprehensive benefits package including 12 paid holidays plus university closure between Christmas and New Year’s (using minimal vacation days), paid vacation days ranging 12-24 based on tenure and position, substantial retirement contributions (up to approximately 12%), and extensive medical and dental coverage.
