Role Overview
This position is a high-visibility Executive Assistant role supporting the Managing Director of Western Digital in Ulm, Germany. The role goes beyond traditional administrative support and blends executive assistance with technical understanding, strategic input, project coordination, and cross-functional communication. It is well suited to someone with an engineering background who wants to work closely with leadership at the interface of technology, strategy, and business execution.
Executive & Strategic Support
- Deliver structured organizational and content support to the Managing Director across a technically broad and complex scope.
- Contribute as a thinking partner when preparing background material, recommendations, and input for strategic choices.
- Help set priorities and maintain alignment across important initiatives.
Technical Content & Communication
- Create polished presentations, concepts, and briefing documents in German and English.
- Plan, record, and follow up on technical and strategy-related meetings.
- Convert advanced engineering topics into concise, executive-friendly communication.
Project Coordination & Execution
- Take part in and help coordinate technical and strategic projects across countries.
- Monitor progress, keep stakeholders aligned, and support on-time delivery of key workstreams.
- Act as a link between engineering, product, and business functions.
Strategic Analysis
- Assess technical requirements and new opportunities in the context of business field development.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating emerging technologies, especially in semiconductor and photonics areas.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related interdisciplinary technical discipline such as electrical engineering, physics, or photonics. The company is looking for an early-career professional or someone with post-PhD experience, preferably with exposure to semiconductor industry work. Experience with cross-functional or international projects is advantageous. A strong grasp of semiconductor technologies is required, and VCSEL technology knowledge is especially desirable. The role also calls for excellent written and spoken English, with German skills strongly preferred. Candidates should be analytical, organized, accountable, and comfortable turning complex information into leadership-ready insights. A professional, adaptable, discreet, and entrepreneurial mindset is important, along with flexibility to work in a fast-moving environment and adjust working hours when needed.
