Overview
The Examinations and Assessments Lead oversees the comprehensive management and operation of the examinations and assessment team within the Technical Institute. This position is responsible for efficient planning, execution, supervision, and evaluation of all examination and assessment procedures aligned with the Institute's standards and contractual requirements.
The role provides oversight to ensure compliance with assessment strategies across training programmes, collaborates with senior academic and engineering instructors, and guarantees the integrity and consistency of assessment delivery. It involves managing student data, conducting ongoing reviews of assessment processes, and analysing performance data to identify trends and areas needing improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the examinations and assessment team while adhering to organizational policies on talent and wellbeing management.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Technical Institute's Assessment Strategy across all training sections.
- Provide advance assessment schedules including test dates, re-sit options, and appeal processes to Chief Instructors.
- Forecast and plan necessary resources to support assessment activities effectively.
- Identify and provide training needs for staff engaged in invigilation, marking, and assessment administration.
- Maintain comprehensive assessment data for analysis of factors influencing student results.
- Ensure all examination policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and comply with accreditation standards.
- Oversee consistent delivery of examinations and assessments across the Institute in line with established assessment frameworks.
- Coordinate exam preparations including venue setup, seating, invigilation, and stationery supplies.
- Manage compliant examination practices, including reasonable adjustments for students when applicable.
- Prepare and deliver examination results and student placement reports to management.
- Provide support to students and consult with the Qatar Armed Forces and Institute management on assessment-related queries and concerns.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a closely related discipline.
- Strong understanding of examination and assessment principles including formative and summative assessments in secondary or tertiary education.
- Knowledge of the purposes of assessment such as diagnostic, formative, summative, and certification assessments.
- Experience overseeing assessments, including scheduling, invigilation, security, moderation, and results processing in an educational setting.
- Proven leadership or management experience within an academic or educational context, preferably involving examination coordination.
- Excellent organizational and planning abilities with effective multitasking under pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including report writing and handling confidential information sensitively.
- Competency in stakeholder management and liaison with diverse groups including academic staff, military personnel, and students.
- Proficient computer skills, familiarity with training management systems, Microsoft Office, databases, and statistical tools.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills
- Familiarity with military trade training and vocational training requirements for military personnel.
- Understanding of defence training models such as BAE Systems’ Approach to Training (BSAT) or Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT).
- Knowledge of English language proficiency standards aligned to frameworks like CEFR.
- Experience with vocational and technical qualification systems including BTEC, City & Guilds, TVET frameworks.
- Background in quality assurance, accreditation processes, and intercultural competence relevant to Middle Eastern cultures.
- Certification in training assessment quality assurance such as TAQA.
- Skills in e-assessment platforms (Moodle, Blackboard) and ability to lead quality assurance activities like moderation and internal audits.
- Experience navigating exam security, malpractice investigations, and collaboration with external awarding bodies.
