About the Role
The Environmental Services Worker helps keep hospital spaces clean, orderly, and safe. The role involves cleaning and servicing assigned areas, moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed, and carrying out a range of environmental support tasks to maintain a sanitary setting.
What You’ll Do
- Choose the right cleaning products and prepare solutions for use, then stock the service cart and take it to the assigned area.
- Clean designated spaces, including surfaces such as walls, doors, tile, fixtures, patient televisions, and equipment, using germicidal cleaning agents.
- Sweep and mop floors, vacuum carpets, and remove spot stains with appropriate cleaning methods.
- Clean restrooms, vanity areas, showers, and commodes while keeping them sanitary and free from odors, and restock necessary supplies.
- Collect trash, remove it from work areas, and sanitize garbage cans and the compactor area.
- Handle hazardous waste when required by placing it in a sealed container for sterilization before disposal.
- Gather soiled linen and distribute clean linen when needed.
- Set up furniture for meetings, workshops, and community events.
- Return unused supplies to the janitor closet and keep all materials stored neatly and in order.
Work Expectations
- You must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English to understand cleaning instructions and material guidance.
- Consistent and dependable attendance is required.
- You may be asked to take on additional related duties as assigned.
- Strong interpersonal skills are important for this role.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, including completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to carry out the essential duties of the job. No license or certification is required. Prior experience in an acute care environment is preferred.
