About the role
For the Zoll administration, the Main Customs Office in Erfurt is looking to strengthen its team at the Chemnitz training and operations center with several external hires. The role is based at the ETZ in Chemnitz and is classified in pay group 4 under the collective agreement for the federal public service.
The position is permanent and intended for candidates who want a stable role in public service with varied duties in a training and facility environment.
What you will do
- Carry out the day-to-day work required in the sports hall, the operational training complex, and the shooting range complex at the ETZ Chemnitz.
- Store, manage, issue, and receive training materials, sports and operational training equipment, devices, weapons, ammunition, and related accessories used for weapons and shooting instruction.
- Maintain training materials, sports and operational equipment, sports devices, vehicles used for service and training, radio equipment, and technical systems, including minor repair work.
- Clean the shooting ranges in the indoor shooting facility complex and remove residue from propellant powder after firing.
- Take on other tasks as needed in individual cases.

Requirements
- Full physical resilience and fitness for the role.
- Willingness to work in a two-shift system from Monday to Friday between 06:00 and 20:00, with occasional Saturday duty from 07:00 to 13:00 on site.
- Aptitude and willingness to drive official vehicles.
- Valid driving licence class B / former class 3, not issued on probation.
- At least 2 years of total experience in one or more of the following areas: manual work, warehouse work or warehouse administration, caretaker services, or building maintenance.
- Good interpersonal conduct, independence, self-reliance, teamwork, communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong spoken and written German, plus clear expression in both oral and written communication.
- Commitment, sense of responsibility, reliability, and organisational ability.
- Basic MS Office knowledge, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook, or willingness to learn.
- Willingness to work overtime when necessary, compensated by time off, including Sundays and public holidays for tasks such as raising and lowering the flags at the ETZ masts.
Preferred profile
- Completed vocational training of at least 2 years in a skilled trade is an advantage, but not mandatory.
- Willingness to take part in training and professional development measures.
- Willingness to complete onboarding during probation at Plessow, Leipzig, or Sigmaringen, likely for around two weeks at one of these locations.
- Experience handling weapons and ammunition is desirable.
- Willingness to obtain the explosives-law qualification needed for cleaning work under the relevant shooting range directive, if not already available.

The pay level for employees is determined under Section 16 of the federal public service collective agreement. In certain cases, credit for relevant previous experience may allow placement in a higher pay step.
