Estimator / Procurement Specialist

Role Overview

Walsh Construction Group is looking for an experienced Estimator / Procurement Specialist to support a growing construction team in Bandon, County Cork. This position suits a commercially minded professional with hands-on estimating experience and the confidence to develop accurate, competitive pricing across a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender documents for construction work.
• Complete prequalification forms and the supporting paperwork needed for tender bids.
• Develop rates from first principles, covering labour, plant, materials, and subcontracted work.
• Review drawings, specifications, and other project documents to assess scope and cost.
• Measure quantities directly from drawings with accuracy.
• Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors and negotiate commercial terms.
• Track Etenders and similar procurement platforms for relevant opportunities.
• Support procurement planning and purchasing tasks.
• Keep cost records and supplier pricing information current.
• Maintain Buildsoft BOQ templates for residential and commercial projects.
• Work closely with the QS team and site teams during tendering and while projects are active on site.
• Spot opportunities for value engineering and cost reduction.
• Deliver tenders on time and to a high professional standard.

Requirements

• Between 3 and 5 years of experience in an estimating position within the Irish construction sector.
• Proven ability to build rates and prepare accurate, detailed cost plans.
• Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and market pricing.
• Experience across commercial, residential, or civil projects is an advantage.
• Strong numeracy, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
• Well organised and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.
• Confident using Microsoft Excel, Global Estimating (Buildsoft), and Cubit.
• Good communication and negotiation abilities.
• Able to work on your own initiative as well as collaboratively.
