About the Role
This position is for an experienced Estimator in the passive fire protection sector, based in Kent. The role involves creating precise and competitive cost assessments for projects related to fire stopping, fire doors, compartmentation, and related construction disciplines. The Estimator will have an important part in securing and supporting new project ventures within a growing enterprise.
Primary Duties
- Produce detailed and competitive quotations for passive fire protection projects.
- Analyze tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scope information thoroughly.
- Perform comprehensive take-offs and evaluate labor, materials, and related costs.
- Interpret fire strategy, construction drawings, and specifications accurately.
- Communicate effectively with clients, main contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather necessary pricing data.
- Recognize and document project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and possible changes.
- Procure competitive pricing for materials and subcontracted work.
- Ensure commercial viability of estimates while maintaining market competitiveness.
- Submit comprehensive tender returns within set deadlines.
- Participate in site visits and tender meetings as required.
- Collaborate closely with Commercial, Pre-Construction, and Operations teams to ensure smooth project transitions.
- Keep accurate records of estimates and engage in process improvement initiatives.
- Stay updated on products, systems, standards, and regulations relevant to passive fire protection.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as an Estimator specifically within passive fire protection.
- In-depth knowledge of fire stopping, compartmentation, and fire door systems.
- Experience estimating for main contractors, Tier 1 contractors, housing associations, or public sector clients.
- Strong comprehension of construction drawings, specifications, and scope.
- Excellent numerical and analytical capabilities.
- High commercial awareness with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tenders and deadlines effectively.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and dedicated estimating/tendering software.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a commercial team.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge in fire stopping and compartmentation systems.
- Familiarity with fire doors and remedial works.
- Experience conducting passive fire surveys and managing remedial programs.
- Exposure to social housing projects.
- Background in both new build and refurbishment projects.
- Experience in framework and public-sector tendering.
- Working relationships with Tier 1 main contractors.
