Our projects span across various sectors such as educational institutions, healthcare facilities, heritage site restorations, and civic structures. Hawkins plays a key role in realizing some of the country's most notable and complex construction projects, while fostering rewarding career opportunities for our employees.

Role Overview

Due to sustained growth in the Wellington region and increased construction demands, we are seeking a seasoned Estimator to join our expanding Wellington team. This position is ideal for an accomplished professional ready to contribute significantly from day one.

The primary focus for this role includes employment on Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) projects, maintaining communication with clients and all stakeholders, providing timely and accurate cost estimates for new construction acquisitions, strengthening client relations, aiding business expansion, and building partnerships with key subcontractors and suppliers to negotiate preferred pricing during tender processes.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years' experience as an Estimator in commercial construction projects.
  • Familiarity with the New Zealand construction market.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively within a team.
  • Preferably experience with main contractors (not mandatory).
  • A relevant tertiary qualification such as a degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying or a related Engineering field.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods and the capability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proven skills in measuring and pricing direct trades, particularly concrete and carpentry.
  • Ability to analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations and evaluate subcontractor tags.
  • Awareness of pricing trends coupled with strict confidentiality regarding data.
  • Beneficial knowledge of New Zealand contract law.
  • Proficient computer skills; familiarity with CostX software is advantageous.
  • Experience in cost planning.

The ideal candidate will also be receptive to advice, enjoy challenges, have excellent problem-solving aptitude, be detail-focused, an effective communicator, capable of managing tender procedures, and able to perform well under pressure.

Hawkins is a recognized leader in the execution of complex construction projects. Joining our team means participating in challenging projects that accelerate your career development. Employees benefit from generous perks, ongoing training and development opportunities, and a collaborative and innovative culture.

We encourage motivated professionals to join Hawkins and help us create better communities through construction. Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screening and medical assessments.
