Role overview
The Estimator will prepare precise costings for residential building projects and ensure estimates match drawings, specifications, inclusions, and company benchmarks. Based on-site in Adelaide, South Australia, this full-time position involves assessing plans and supporting documents, measuring materials and labour requirements, and obtaining pricing from suppliers and subcontractors. The role also includes updating budgets as projects progress, maintaining cost records, and working with design, sales, and construction teams to deliver accurate pricing information on time.
Key duties
- Review plans, drawings, and project documentation to build accurate residential estimates.
- Measure material and labour requirements and convert them into clear cost breakdowns.
- Gather and compare pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare tender submissions and support the quotation process.
- Keep cost databases current and adjust budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with design, sales, and construction teams to provide reliable cost inputs.
- Identify savings opportunities while protecting build quality and specifications.
- Ensure estimates reflect transparent pricing and clearly defined inclusions.
- Maintain organised records and assist with contract variation pricing.
- Help improve estimating systems and support efficient internal workflows.
Required experience and capabilities
- Hands-on experience in residential construction estimating, ideally with volume or turnkey home builders.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, engineering documents, and specifications.
- Comfort using estimating software, Excel, and standard office tools.
- Good working knowledge of construction materials, trades, South Australian building codes, and industry practices.
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to produce clear, structured, and well-supported cost estimates.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for coordinating with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Effective planning and time management to manage multiple estimates and deadlines.
- Relevant qualification in construction management, quantity surveying, building, or a related field.
