About the Role
An established Leeds-based company specializing in control panel design, manufacturing, and building management systems (BMS) with over 25 years of industry experience is seeking a skilled Estimator for their Building Services team. They provide comprehensive services including system design, in-house panel production, engineering, installation, and maintenance across commercial, industrial, educational, healthcare, and public sector markets.
This company is well-known for delivering bespoke, high-quality control solutions and undertakes a variety of technically demanding projects, from new construction to large-scale refurbishment and upgrades. Typically, projects are split 75% new builds and 25% rework, spanning sectors like schools, student residences, office buildings, manufacturing sites, and commercial properties, with project values ranging from £10,000 to £500,000.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze customer requirements, specifications, technical drawings, and project documentation thoroughly to understand scope.
- Generate precise quotations and tender proposals based on comprehensive technical and project information.
- Interpret and evaluate mechanical, electrical, controls, and building services drawings.
- Assess materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractor costs for accurate pricing estimations.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal engineering teams to gather necessary technical and commercial inputs.
- Engage in technical conversations with clients and internal stakeholders during the tender process.
- Work alongside the Business Development Director and engineering staff to ensure solutions are both cost-effective and technically sound.
- Assist in transferring awarded projects to the delivery teams efficiently.
- Keep detailed records of quotations, pricing, and tender documentation.
- Contribute to the enhancement of estimating practices and internal workflows.
- Expand knowledge of ISO9001 quality management procedures and company standards.
- Learn about BMS systems, controls, and company-specific technologies progressively.
Candidate Profile and Skills Required
- Experience in estimating or technical roles within M&E, MEP, building services, controls, BMS, HVAC, or related engineering fields.
- Strong comprehension of engineering systems and their operations.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and project-related documents.
- Familiarity with components and equipment used in building services or controls environments.
- Excellent analytical abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Capability to prepare precise quotations and evaluate technical demands effectively.
- Confident communicator able to interact with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Organized and capable of managing several projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take on more responsibilities.
- Candidates transitioning from technical engineering backgrounds into estimating are encouraged to apply.
