Job description
Overview
This office-based estimator position is with an established structural steelwork contractor in County Wexford, near New Ross. The role carries a salary of €60,000 and focuses on producing accurate, commercially sound estimates for structural steelwork packages across a range of construction projects.
The business is seeking someone with solid experience in structural steel estimating who is comfortable handling a variety of technically demanding enquiries, from initial review through to tender submission. The position plays an important part in commercial decision-making, client relationships and the delivery of high-quality steelwork projects.
What you will do
- Build detailed cost estimates for structural steelwork jobs.
- Examine drawings, specifications and tender packs in detail.
- Carry out material take-offs and prepare labour calculations.
- Collect and compare pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Spot commercial risks, opportunities and potential value-engineering options.
- Put together competitive tender submissions within agreed timeframes.
- Work with clients, consultants and internal teams during the tender cycle.
- Assist with the smooth transfer of awarded work to delivery teams.
- Contribute ideas to improve estimating workflows and tendering methods.
What the employer is looking for
The ideal candidate will already have estimating experience in the structural steelwork sector and a strong understanding of fabrication and installation processes. You should be able to read technical drawings and tender documents accurately, show sound commercial judgement, and stay organised while managing several tenders at once.
Strong communication skills are important, along with the ability to build effective working relationships. Experience with commercial, industrial or infrastructure pricing would be an advantage, as would familiarity with Eurocodes, Irish construction standards, estimating tools and Microsoft Excel.
