Job description
Role overview
Kirklees Council is hiring an Equipment and Stores Officer to support the Kirklees Caretaking and Cleaning Service. The service serves around 900 staff working across 200 locations, including schools, council premises and partner organisations. In this position, you will help ensure that cleaning supplies, equipment and technical assistance are available where they are needed so services can run smoothly and to a high standard.
Key duties
You will occasionally transport cleaning materials, equipment and specialist machinery to different sites across Kirklees. The role also includes repairing and servicing cleaning machines, resolving faults, and carrying out regular testing of portable electrical equipment in line with health and safety requirements.
You will keep stock records accurate, support ordering activities, and use computer-based systems to track orders and prepare routine reports. The role involves frequent interaction with customers, so you will be expected to provide helpful guidance, support and a consistently professional service.
What the council is looking for
The ideal candidate will be comfortable with physically demanding work and will have experience using computers and digital systems. A basic Portable Appliance Testing qualification is preferred, although the council is willing to support the right person in gaining one. Previous experience repairing or maintaining equipment or machinery is important, along with the ability to organise tasks well, manage priorities and work independently.
A full, valid driving licence is essential. Travel across Kirklees will be required, using either a council vehicle or your own car.
Behaviours and expectations
Kirklees expects employees to demonstrate positive, honest, respectful, flexible, communicative and supportive behaviours. The successful candidate will also be expected to act as a role model for these values.
Working arrangements
This is a permanent role for 15 hours per week, based across Kirklees. The grade for the post is 6 and the salary range is £10,703 to £11,408.
Additional information
Applications are reviewed using a name-blind shortlisting process. Hiring managers will not see personal details, including your name, contact information or any CV uploaded, until shortlisting has been completed. Equality monitoring data is also hidden from recruiting managers at every stage.
