Role Overview

This full-time remote position of Environmental Specialist entails providing expert guidance on environmental risk and sustainability aspects within projects backed by the World Bank Group. Responsibilities include analyzing project materials for environmental risks, recommending mitigation strategies, verifying compliance with environmental policies, preparing and reviewing environmental assessments, and integrating climate and sustainability factors into project plans.

The role requires active collaboration with cross-functional teams, engaging with project clients and stakeholders, and producing comprehensive reports, guidance documents, and communications concerning environmental performance and best practices.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Sound knowledge in Environmental Science and Environmental Policy applicable to development and sustainability projects.
  • Experience in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) standards and Environmental Compliance, including risk evaluation and mitigation implementation.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex environmental information clearly to a diverse range of audiences and work effectively in multicultural teams.
  • Academic credentials such as a bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, ecology, natural resources, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with environmental dimensions of infrastructure, energy, agricultural, or urban development projects is highly advantageous.
  • Proficient analytical and report-writing capabilities using standard office and collaboration software; familiarity with environmental modeling or GIS tools is an asset.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously in a remote environment, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with consistent quality.
  • Dedication to inclusive, non-discriminatory practices aligned with the World Bank Group’s commitment to sustainability and equitable development.
