Job summary

The Environmental Services Worker II supports a clean, safe, and welcoming hospital environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position focuses on sanitizing clinical and non-clinical areas, handling waste and linens, managing spills, and completing routine cleaning work in line with hospital procedures and infection prevention requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out floor care duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and shampooing to keep surfaces clean and safe.
  • Collect and dispose of waste correctly, including infectious, biohazardous, and regular trash, while following hospital rules and applicable regulations.
  • Manage used linens, replace them with clean bags, and ensure soiled items are properly contained and stored.
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, hallways, offices, and shared spaces according to infection control expectations.
  • Handle spill response and contamination cleanup with the right safety and disinfection steps.
  • Move furniture, floor mats, and other items when needed for cleaning, maintenance, or departmental moves.
  • Track cleaning supply use carefully to control costs and ensure supplies are stored and handled safely.
  • Report repair or maintenance concerns to a supervisor or the facilities team for prompt follow-up.
  • Keep cleaning records up to date and document completed environmental services work accurately.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned, maintain dependable attendance, and follow all workplace policies and standards.

Qualifications

This role requires 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial work, or hospital facility maintenance.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Understanding of cleaning methods, cleaning chemicals, and floor care practices.
  • Ability to safely manage biohazardous and infectious waste in accordance with infection control rules.
  • Comfort using, cleaning, and maintaining equipment properly.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow cleaning schedules consistently.
  • Working knowledge of hospital procedures, safety practices, and regulatory standards related to environmental services.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy healthcare setting.
  • Professional communication skills for interacting with staff, patients, and visitors.

Certifications

Certification in Environmental Services or Healthcare Cleaning, such as CHEST or CHESP, is preferred.

Schedule

Full-time day shift role with working hours from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
