Job description
Overview
Disney Cruise Line is seeking an Environmental Officer to serve as the onboard authority on environmental compliance. In this shipboard role, you will help ensure that company environmental policies are carried out consistently, that the vessel follows relevant national and international regulations, and that managers and crew understand their responsibilities. The position sits at Senior Officer level (3 stripes) and is based on a Disney Cruise Line vessel.

Responsibilities
- Oversee the rollout of company environmental policies and procedures, including waste handling, pollution prevention and response, and the control, purchase, storage, and use of hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Ensure vessel operations remain compliant with MARPOL and other applicable international and national environmental laws.
- Keep environmental logs and records current and check that departments maintain accurate documentation.
- Confirm that all required placards and notices are displayed in the correct locations.
- Coordinate monthly Environmental Committee meetings and prepare the related report.
- Escalate environmental issues, defects, and any non-compliance concerns to the Master.
- Support updates to the AMOS system within the assigned discipline.
- Manage matters related to waste, chemical handling, spill response, potable water, wastewater, and voyage planning.
- Oversee swimming pools, whirlpools, and wet play areas, including chemical levels, chlorination and cleaning logs, and other steps needed to meet public health requirements.
- Deliver environmental training to crew using all available tools, including classroom sessions.
- Advise ship leaders on activities that may affect the environment.
- Inform relevant leaders whenever regulations or procedures change.
- Work with the Captain and shoreside Disney Cruise Line Environmental Affairs team on compliance with VSP regulations, where required.
- Share updates with the shore Environmental Committee and other Environmental Officers to support revisions to the Safety Management System.
- Work closely with the Island Environmental Manager on environmental matters involving ship and island operations.
- Coordinate waste transfers between the island and the ship, including the associated records.
- Provide professional and social guidance to subordinate crew through strong personal example.
- Carry out emergency duties as listed in the ship Assembly Stations and Emergency Functions Plan.

This is a shipboard position. The selected candidate must be ready to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel and be genuinely interested in a career at sea.
Requirements
- Willingness to perform assigned safety roles, emergency duties, and related responsibilities as outlined in the ship Assembly Plan.
- Commitment to follow general safety management responsibilities under the Safety Management System for areas and operations under personal control.
- Ability to live in a confined cabin with other crew members if required.
- Comfort working and living in a multicultural environment with strict rules and procedures.
- Valid passport and C1/D Seaman’s visa; the company will provide the documents needed to obtain the visa.
- Completion of a pre-employment medical examination.
- Obtainment of a criminal background check.
- Ability to bring approved work shoes.
- Willingness to complete drug and alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout the contract, with immediate termination if testing is failed.
Work Environment
The role is performed onboard a vessel and includes close collaboration with shipboard leadership, crew, shoreside environmental teams, and island operations. It requires readiness for emergency response and adherence to maritime safety and environmental standards.
