Environmental Officer

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Environmental Officer position based in Doha, Qatar. The role is crucial for supporting the planning, implementation, and oversight of environmental management practices within construction and interior fit-out projects. Key daily duties involve performing site inspections, identifying potential environmental hazards, and ensuring adherence to local regulations and company policies. The position requires the preparation and upkeep of environmental reports, checklists, and necessary documentation, alongside contributing to the development and refinement of environmental management plans and procedures. The Environmental Officer will also facilitate collaboration with project teams, subcontractors, and external parties to foster sustainable practices, support environmental audits, and deliver training sessions or toolbox talks focused on environmental awareness. Furthermore, the role includes monitoring waste management, resource utilization, and pollution prevention initiatives, with the responsibility to propose and implement corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications

• A solid understanding of environmental management systems and standards, such as ISO 14001, encompassing environmental risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and compliance monitoring.
• Demonstrated experience within the construction sector or similar industries, providing a practical grasp of site operations, waste handling methodologies, and pollution control measures.
• Proficiency in report writing, meticulous documentation, and data analysis for tracking environmental performance metrics and generating regulatory or internal reports.
• The capability to interpret and apply environmental legislation, regulations, and guidelines pertinent to Qatar or the wider GCC region.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities essential for effective collaboration with project personnel, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies, as well as for conducting training and awareness programs.
• A keen eye for detail, a proactive problem-solving approach, and the capacity to recommend and follow through on corrective and preventive actions.
• A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a closely related discipline; professional certifications in the field are considered advantageous.
• Competence in using standard office and project management software; familiarity with specialized environmental monitoring tools or databases is beneficial.
• The ability to commit to full-time on-site work in Doha, conduct frequent field inspections, and remain adaptable to evolving project priorities and schedules.
