Role overview

Atlantic Aviation Group is seeking a driven Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join its Shannon, County Clare operation at Shannon Airport. Reporting to the EHS Manager, this position sits within a long-established aviation business with more than 60 years of experience and a broad service portfolio that includes aircraft maintenance and modifications, technical and engineering services, logistics and material support, international training, Part 145 aircraft maintenance, defence services, and the EASA Part 147 Atlantic Aviation Training Academy.

Key duties

  • Own the review, interpretation, communication, and rollout of all relevant safety legislation.
  • Run the internal audit programme and carry out routine spot-check assessments in line with company safety policies and procedures to help keep the workplace safe and secure.
  • Track safety performance and provide updates, insights, and recommendations to the EHS / Quality Manager.
  • Produce regular health and safety performance statistics, identify emerging patterns, and take action to maintain and communicate compliance and safety standards.
  • Coordinate the risk assessment programme and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
  • Assist with occupational health monitoring initiatives, including reviewing trends and suggesting improvements.
  • Identify training requirements and design and deliver programmes for employees, contractors, and customers to maintain the required level of safety awareness and competence.
  • Lead incident reporting and investigations, perform root-cause analysis, and make sure corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Prepare management reporting for internal stakeholders, the AAG Group, and external agencies where needed.
  • Support the review of new activities and equipment from a health and safety legislation and implementation perspective.
  • Help maintain and continuously improve the emergency response plan.
  • Keep training records, statistical data, and related documentation up to date.
  • Coordinate the Safety Committee and first-aid activity programmes.
  • Work with other AAG Group EHS colleagues on relevant matters and developments.
  • Liaise with internal departments such as HR, the occupational health nurse/doctor, and Operations, as well as external bodies including the Health and Safety Authority, Personal Injury Assessment Board, and insurance companies.
  • Support the EHS / Quality Manager in building a stronger safety culture through communication channels, safety topics, and awareness campaigns.
  • Assist the EHS specialist team and other Quality Team members with day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Take on projects and other assignments as directed by the EHS / Quality Manager.

Candidate profile

  • You should hold a relevant degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • You need a solid understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance standards, including the ability to interpret them correctly.
  • You should be willing to broaden your knowledge across health, safety, and environmental duties in a wide operational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important, along with the confidence to influence positively and challenge appropriately in a busy workplace.
  • You must be able to build effective relationships across teams and work with senior management to improve health and safety performance.

Working conditions

  • The role requires that you meet and continue to satisfy the required medical standard.
  • Work is carried out at the AAG hangar in Shannon.
  • Personal protective equipment is supplied by AAG and must be worn while performing the role.
  • You must meet and maintain airport security requirements.
