Job description

Role overview

This position carries full responsibility for environmental, health and safety matters across Unilin sites in Ireland. The role is based entirely on site and reports to the Factory Manager. It involves leading the company’s internal safety framework and heading the team that ensures ongoing compliance with the EPA licence and ISO 14001 management systems. The manager will also provide practical EH&S guidance to leaders and employees, while driving a strong safety culture aimed at preventing injury, illness and material loss.

  • Lead the team responsible for meeting EPA licence and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Advise management and employees on environmental, health and safety issues.
  • Promote a zero-harm mindset and continuous risk reduction.

Key attributes

  • A bachelor’s degree in health and safety, or a related discipline, is preferred.
  • At least 4 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • A hands-on approach to health and safety fundamentals and behavioural safety is important.
  • Strong working knowledge of safety and environmental management systems is essential.
  • Familiarity with COMAH and ATEX processes is an advantage.
  • Experience working with HSA, EPA and IPPC licensing requirements is needed.
  • The ability to lead, support and motivate a team managing site EH&S systems is required.
  • Good organisational and administrative capability is necessary.
  • Strong communication skills, self-motivation and the ability to handle multiple priorities are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the daily morning meeting and brief management on health and safety matters.
  • Implement and support the H&S management system across Unilin’s Irish sites.
  • Help strengthen site zero-harm performance and capability.
  • Create, improve and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.
  • Carry out site risk assessments and review existing assessments regularly.
  • Deliver induction training for new joiners and employees returning after extended absence, while maintaining complete training records.
  • Investigate accidents and ensure corrective actions are completed promptly.
  • Coach managers and employees on improving team safety and performance.
  • Work with the Zero-Harm Manager to develop and refresh health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Plan, organise and deliver relevant health and safety training, including manual handling and first aid.
  • Maintain the fire safety register.
  • Update the company Safety Statement when needed.
  • Chair site safety committee meetings.
  • Maintain records relating to chemicals and PPE.
  • Manage and support the H&S Coordinator who reports directly to this role.
  • Carry out environmental monitoring and reporting.
  • Prepare environmental submissions for the EA and local authorities and liaise with government agencies on an ongoing basis.
  • Oversee waste movement into and out of the facility, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Work closely with operations each day to maintain site compliance.
  • Complete site assessments, internal audits and daily/weekly record keeping.
  • Take on additional duties as requested by management.
  • Work flexible hours when business needs require it.
