Environmental Health and Safety Officer

Role overview

Kepak Group is looking for a proactive Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Officer to help strengthen a positive safety culture across its operations. In this role, you will ensure the business meets environmental, health, and safety legal requirements, follows internal policies, and applies industry best practice while continuously improving workplace safety and environmental outcomes.

Health & safety

• Help put the company’s Health & Safety Management System into practice and keep it running effectively.
• Carry out routine inspections, audits, and risk assessments across the workplace.
• Look into accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe situations, then identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Check ongoing compliance with health and safety laws and internal procedures.
• Support the creation of safe systems of work, policies, and procedures.
• Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and employee training sessions.
• Encourage a strong safety mindset and active employee participation in safety initiatives.
• Keep accurate health and safety records, reports, and supporting documents.

Environmental responsibilities

• Support adherence to environmental legislation, permits, and company standards.
• Monitor waste handling, recycling activities, and environmental control measures.
• Assist with environmental improvement actions and sustainability projects.
• Perform environmental inspections and audits.
• Support environmental reporting and tracking of performance results.

Compliance and continuous improvement

• Assist with both internal and external audits.
• Track corrective and preventive actions through to completion.
• Support emergency preparedness and response planning.
• Identify opportunities to improve EHS performance on an ongoing basis.
• Prepare monthly EHS reports and KPI dashboards for management review.

Experience and essential requirements

• A qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a similar field is required.
• At least 2 years of experience in an EHS position within manufacturing, construction, engineering, logistics, or a comparable setting.
• Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation is essential.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills are needed.
• Strong organisational ability and problem-solving skills are important for this role.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications.
• A full driving licence is required.

Preferred background

• NEBOSH General Certificate or an equivalent qualification is preferred.
• Membership of IOSH is desirable.
• Internal Auditor certification would be an advantage.
• Experience working with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems is desirable.
• Knowledge of sustainability and environmental improvement programmes is beneficial.
