About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety Manager to oversee Industrial and Biomedical Waste Management operations, ensuring compliance and safety within our facility. This role involves leading health, safety, and environmental practices aligned with applicable regulations and advancing our sustainability mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure strict adherence to all national and regional safety standards as well as Biomedical Waste Management legislation.
- Execute and monitor implementation of HSE policies and procedures within the waste management facility.
- Collaborate with the corporate team to develop and update HSE policies and safety targets.
- Keep comprehensive records of audits, inspections, incident investigations, near-misses, and compliance documentation.
- Carry out risk assessments and identify hazards related to industrial hazardous waste, biomedical waste handling, transportation, incineration/autoclave operations, and chemical storage and usage.
- Recognize unsafe conditions and behaviors, then enforce corrective actions promptly.
- Formulate Job Safety Analysis and Safe Work Procedures to support operational safety.
- Maintain biomedical waste segregation, storage, and labelling standards rigorously.
- Monitor personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance and safety protocol adherence among staff.
- Conduct regular inspections of handling areas, storage zones, treatment units like incinerators and autoclaves, equipment, and fire safety installations including alarms and extinguishers.
- Investigate workplace accidents, spills, injuries, and near misses to identify root causes and enact preventive measures.
- Prepare detailed incident reports and keep thorough records related to safety events.
- Lead safety trainings and toolbox talks covering emergency response, safe handling of hazardous and biomedical wastes, infection control, fire safety, chemical management, and PPE use.
- Arrange periodic mock and fire drills to prepare employees for potential emergencies including chemical exposures or fires.
- Maintain and oversee fire safety equipment and emergency exit preparedness.
- Develop and implement robust emergency response plans, coordinating with local emergency services and authorities as needed.
- Compile and maintain all safety documentation such as inspection findings, incident logs, training attendance records, PPE issue logs, as well as safety audit summaries.
- Deliver monthly safety performance reports to management to track continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
- Proficient in Environmental Management Systems (EMS) with knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Strong background in occupational health and safety practices, biomedical waste regulations, and fire and industrial safety management.
- Experienced conducting safety inspections, audits, accident investigations, and risk assessments in chemical, pharmaceutical, and engineering environments.
- Capable of implementing comprehensive safety procedures and guidelines effectively.
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in Science or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
- Professional certifications in HSE, Industrial Safety, or Fire & Safety Management Systems are preferred.
- Has 12 to 20 years of relevant industry experience.
- Willingness to travel extensively, approximately 15 days per month.
