Job Overview
The Environmental Analyst role involves supporting various project teams by delivering thorough data examination, technical expertise, and creative solutions across environmental initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop foundational consulting competencies suitable for an early-career professional, including systematic scientific analysis, clear inquiry, documenting premises, incorporating feedback, and gradually achieving greater autonomy over tasks within the initial two years.
- Consistently produce high-quality consulting output under project managers' guidance while handling multiple concurrent projects.
- Contribute reliably to project delivery aligned with revenue objectives by performing billable assignments efficiently, managing time well, and meeting deadlines.
- Provide dependable support for marketing efforts, subject matter research, and administrative tasks.
- Offer practical suggestions to enhance Acorn International’s service quality, efficiency, including improvements to project tools, data management, client deliverables, and internal workflows.
- Assist project managers with coordination duties such as taking meeting notes, monitoring action items, maintaining files, updating timelines or task trackers, and following up on deliverables.
- Gather, process, and analyze environmental and social datasets obtained from fieldwork, laboratory tests, and regulatory databases.
- Apply statistical methodologies and software tools to interpret data and supply actionable insights to project teams.
- Generate comprehensive technical reports, visual charts, and presentation materials to communicate findings effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- Prepare organized, well-formatted work products suitable for senior staff review, ensuring professional tone, proper formatting, source citation, and compliance with client requirements.
- Support environmental and social impact assessments by contributing to baseline research, impact detection, mitigation tracking, regulatory analysis, and crafting clear report sections.
- Conduct desktop research using public sources, client documents, regulatory systems, and international standards; accurately summarize results and maintain orderly source documentation.
- Maintain clear communication with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to facilitate successful project execution.
- Proactively update supervisors on task progress, deadlines, queries, workload issues, and potential risks affecting quality, budget, or timeline.
- Identify opportunities to innovate and improve data analysis and technical methodologies continuously.
- Perform thorough quality control checks of deliverables, including verifying data tables, citations, formatting, calculations, references, and consistency across figures and report text before submission.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not include supervisory duties.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Efficient time management and strong organizational skills.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities to interpret complex datasets and produce actionable conclusions.
- Proficiency or a strong willingness to learn Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) and project-specific software for data analysis, documentation, mapping, and collaboration.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical information.
- Keen attention to detail ensuring accuracy in work.
Education and Experience
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn, receptiveness to feedback, and ability to build technical expertise in environmental and social consulting through hands-on projects, internal mentorship, and self-directed research.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Between zero and two years of relevant experience in data analysis, environmental modeling, or a related technical capacity within environmental consulting.
Physical Requirements
- Extended periods of desk work and computer use.
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 15 pounds as needed.
