Job description

About the organisation

Specialised Sterile Environments (SSE), part of the CWS Cleanrooms Group, is a recognised provider of life sciences support services with more than 20 years of experience. The business focuses on cleanroom services, contract cleaning, and facilities audits, supporting major companies in the life sciences sector while maintaining strong standards around safety, compliance, and quality.

The company is expanding and is seeking an Environment, Health & Safety Officer to join its team in Ireland. This position suits someone who is organised, hands-on, and motivated to build their career in a regulated and fast-moving environment.

Why this role stands out

  • Join a well-established business with two decades of industry experience.
  • Receive ongoing professional development within ISO9001:2015-certified systems.
  • Work in a team culture built around safety, collaboration, and integrity.
  • Gain exposure to the life sciences sector, including pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Role overview

The EHS Officer will help strengthen and maintain a strong safety culture across the organisation. This role involves supporting compliance, improving processes, and ensuring health and safety standards are consistently applied across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Keep all health and safety activities aligned with applicable legislation and internal policies.
  • Carry out thorough risk assessments, including assessments linked to chemical hazards where relevant.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, then help put corrective measures in place.
  • Plan and deliver practical safety training, including manual handling sessions.
  • Keep training logs, safety statements, and related records current and accurate.
  • Work with insurers, consultants, and other stakeholders on health and safety matters.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement through audits, reviews, and reporting.
  • Provide health and safety induction training for new employees and subcontractors.
  • Support a broader international H&S team in promoting safe working practices.

What we’re looking for

  • A degree in Health & Safety or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar EHS position.
  • A full, clean driver’s licence.
  • Manual Handling Instructor certification is beneficial, though not mandatory.
  • Proven ability to assess risks and investigate incidents.
  • Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Confident computer skills, especially in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with online management systems would be an added advantage.
  • A self-driven, positive approach with the ability to handle several priorities independently.

Working location and travel

The role is based from the Galway head office, with options noted for Limerick or Dublin. Some travel to client sites will be required from time to time, so flexibility is important.

Additional information

Safety is a core part of the organisation’s identity. The company is looking for someone who wants to take ownership of their work, expand their expertise, and contribute to a team that values quality and innovation.

Applicants who are ready to advance their health and safety career in the life sciences sector are encouraged to apply.
