Job description
Overview
Corlann’s West Region is hiring for Clarin Services in Clarinbridge, County Galway. The recruitment covers 2 temporary full-time Staff Nurse/Enhanced Nurse posts and 1 permanent full-time Staff Nurse/Enhanced Nurse post. A candidate panel may also be created from this competition for future nurse appointments within Clarin Services over the following 6 months.
About the Service
Clarin Service is a growing community-based day and residential service in the East Galway area. It supports adults with high support needs through personalised outcomes, centre-based services, community-based activities, and residential care. The service aims to work closely with the wider community and support people to live as independently and meaningfully as possible.
Role Summary
The post holder will use nursing expertise to support people with intellectual disabilities to reach the highest possible level of independence. The role requires a consistently high standard of nursing practice and the ability to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of the people supported. The nurse will also act as a knowledge resource for support workers and family members, contributing to better care and support outcomes.
Reporting Line and Working Relationships
This position reports to the Team Leader, Service Co-ordinator, and Area Manager. The role works closely with the people supported by the service, their families and carers, the Team Leader, other managers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
Qualifications and Essential Criteria
A current NMBI Live Register certificate is highly desirable, with RNID or RGN registration also considered highly desirable. Applicants must hold a full clean manual driving licence, be able to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads, and have access to their own car. Strong spoken and written English skills are essential, along with good IT proficiency.
Experience
Applicants should have sufficient experience to carry out the duties of the role and must understand the needs of people with intellectual disabilities. Previous experience with complex needs is desirable, and experience supporting people who present with challenging behaviour would be an advantage.
Key Duties
The successful nurse will provide clinical care and professional nursing support within a person-centred service environment. The role includes helping educate support staff and family members on health-related needs, contributing to the overall wellbeing of the people supported, and working collaboratively with the wider team.
Working Pattern
There are 75 hours per fortnight for each post. The service operates on a 14-day/night roster, and the successful applicant must be fully flexible. Work may include days, evenings, weekends, public holidays, night duty, and programme hours depending on service needs. The enhanced nurse may also carry out additional duties within scope of practice, including standing in for the Team Leader when required. Clinical advice and support may also be needed for colleagues during evenings and weekends across the Clarin Services.
Annual Leave
Annual leave is 24 days per year, pro rata. Additional leave based on length of service may be granted after 5 years and 10 years of service.
Pay and Remuneration
The Staff Nurse scale is €38,166 to €54,956 per annum, with 11 increments, pro rata where applicable. A Long Service Increment of €56,592 per annum applies after 3 years at the maximum of the scale.
The Enhanced Nurse scale is €44,811 to €56,200 per annum, with 7 increments, and is pro rata for part-time work. A Long Service Increment of €57,846 per annum applies after 3 years at the maximum of the scale, also pro rata for part-time employment.
As outlined in HSE HR Circular 022/2019, once a Staff Nurse reaches point 4 on the Staff Nurse scale, they may be eligible to apply for the Enhanced Nurse role, subject to meeting the qualifying criteria and submitting an application.
Incremental credit may be awarded where previous relevant nursing service is verified satisfactorily, and the successful candidate will be placed on the appropriate enhanced staff nurse scale where applicable.
Tenure
Two posts are temporary, full-time, and pensionable. One post is permanent, full-time, and pensionable.
Probation
A probation period of 9 months applies from the date of appointment. Employment may end at any time during probation if the employer considers the appointee unsuitable. The probation period may also be extended at the employer’s discretion.
