Job description
About the Role
This position is for a detail-focused transcription and subtitling professional who will contribute to multimedia localization and accessibility work in the United States. The work calls for strong language ability, careful listening, and practical experience with transcription and subtitle production tools. The main objective is to deliver accurate, polished transcripts and subtitles that align with client instructions and accepted industry practices.
Core Responsibilities
- Convert audio and video material into clear and accurate English transcripts.
- Prepare subtitles and transcripts that comply with project rules such as character limits, reading pace, segmentation standards, and timing/synchronization needs.
- Present the speaker’s meaning, tone, and feeling naturally, with an emphasis on clarity rather than a literal word-for-word rendering.
- Edit out fillers, stutters, and repeated phrases while keeping the speaker’s natural style intact.
- Make sure every deliverable remains faithful to the original source, without leaving out or changing meaning.
- Work with project managers and quality reviewers to understand instructions, resolve issues, and keep production moving smoothly.
- Use professional subtitle and captioning software such as Subtitle Edit, CaptionHub, or comparable tools.
- Keep language, formatting, and terminology uniform across all submitted work.
Compensation
The pay is USD 2.00 per minute, and the rate is negotiable.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should either have a relevant academic background, recognized professional credentials, or substantial hands-on experience in multimedia transcription/subtitling.
Additional Requirements
- A degree in Translation, Linguistics, Philology, or Audiovisual Translation is preferred.
- A professional certification in a related discipline is also acceptable.
- Alternatively, applicants must have at least 1,000 minutes of verified transcription or subtitling work in multimedia projects.
- Professional-level proficiency in English is required.
- Strong communication ability is important for coordination and collaboration.
- Applicants should have a strong sense of cultural context in both source and target languages to support accurate localization.
- Experience handling subtitling limits such as CPL, WPM, segmentation, and synchronization is needed.
- The role requires the ability to capture the core message instead of translating mechanically word for word.
- High accuracy and close attention to detail are essential.
- Candidates must be dependable, responsive, and able to meet deadlines consistently.
- Familiarity with captioning, audio description, and accessibility standards for multimedia is expected.
- A creative and adaptable language approach is valued.
- Applicants should be proactive, flexible, and strong at solving problems.
- Independence, multitasking ability, and a commitment to producing refined, high-quality output are important.
