Engineering Manager - Payment Integrations

About the Role

This position involves leading an engineering team focused on developing critical payment integration systems operating at a global scale. It combines leadership in technology and people management with hands-on software development to create robust and scalable payment platforms. The role is at the nexus of software engineering, financial systems infrastructure, and innovation in global commerce.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and expand a talented engineering team by recruiting, mentoring, and fostering performance growth.
• Develop and implement the technical vision for payment systems, including APIs and backend services.
• Make and guide architectural decisions covering microservices architecture, event-driven design, and payment infrastructure strategies.
• Support engineers in tackling complex technical challenges and participate hands-on when necessary.
• Promote engineering best practices related to API development, software testing, security, system performance, and code maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, backend teams, payment specialists, and other cross-functional groups to align technology with business goals.
• Ensure the systems are resilient, scalable, comprehensively documented, and capable of handling high-volume enterprise transactions.
• Engage in architecture and code reviews, technical planning, and decision-making to uphold engineering standards.
• Enhance engineering workflows by implementing effective agile methodologies and delivery frameworks.
• Lead adoption of AI-driven software development tools, including automated testing, code generation, and large language model-based engineering workflows.
• Ensure that payment solutions uphold security, reliability, and compliance requirements.
• Act as a strategic technology leader balancing business priorities with quality and long-term platform evolution.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in managing and growing engineering teams, including hiring and performance coaching.
• Proficient technical leadership with aptitude for making informed architectural choices and handling multiple priorities.
• Background in payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure with direct experience in payment integration projects.
• In-depth knowledge of payment processing systems such as PSP integrations, transaction flows, tokenization, and routing optimization.
• Strong backend development skills using languages like Java, Golang, Kotlin, or similar.
• Expertise in microservices, API design, event-driven architectures, and common integration patterns.
• Experience with SQL databases and relational data modeling.
• Understanding of secure coding standards and OWASP security principles.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development practices, including automated testing and leveraging LLM tools.
• Proven track record working in agile environments and adapting processes pragmatically.
• Excellent communication skills with a capacity to work efficiently alongside both technical and business stakeholders.
• Fluency in English at an advanced level is required.
• Strong ownership mentality combined with analytical problem-solving capabilities for building reliable, scalable systems.
