Job description
Position Overview
WSP is seeking passionate and skilled engineers across different levels, from Assistant Engineer to Principal Engineer, to join our Roads team in Ireland, including both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. This role involves leading the technical delivery of highway consultancy services throughout the full project lifecycle, encompassing feasibility, concept design, planning, detailed design, and construction stages. Candidates must be client-oriented, able to showcase successful delivery experience in local or national transport projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage day-to-day delivery of highway consultancy services ensuring seamless coordination across multi-disciplinary inputs for projects of varying size, scope, and complexity.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, managing expectations proactively and delivering clear, comprehensive advice.
- Serve as project technical lead and reviewer.
- Guide and support team members to maximize their contributions towards project and team objectives.
- Prepare fee proposals and oversee budgeting for individual projects.
- Develop and implement both discrete and overall project solutions effectively.
- Supervise staff in producing design drawings, standard construction details, specifications, bill of quantities, and tender preparation.
- Ensure projects comply with Health & Safety, Environmental legislation, and internal quality assurance procedures.
- Coordinate team resources by matching talent to roles optimally.
Qualifications and Experience
- Solid understanding and direct experience in highway design and/or drainage systems across various stages of project delivery.
- Expertise in areas such as road geometry, roundabouts, at-grade and grade-separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic signage, and road marking design is highly advantageous.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing single or multiple design disciplines for relevant projects, including roads, public transport, active travel, and/or public/private developments.
- Proficiency in design software such as Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage, or PDS with experience in directing or checking outputs.
- Ability to manage project changes proactively with clear communication regarding impacts on schedule, cost, and quality.
- Excellent communication, client and stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
- Chartered Civil Engineer status or Incorporated Engineer with considerable post-qualification experience, or actively pursuing chartership.
- In-depth knowledge and application of design codes including Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, local authority guidelines, and experience preparing contract documentation and technical approvals including handling departures from standards.
- Experience complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.
