Position Overview and Responsibilities

Maximus is seeking a dedicated Employee Relations Specialist to join and support its centralized Employee Relations team. This role involves leading and managing moderately complex workplace investigations in collaboration with various internal partners such as HR Business Partners, Legal, and HR Compliance, culminating in the development of detailed investigative reports.

The specialist will provide guidance to people managers on topics including performance management, involuntary terminations, conflict resolution, and interpreting policies and procedures, while escalating complex matters to senior Employee Relations leadership as necessary. Monitoring employee relations inquiries through the service portal and ensuring smooth escalation processes for more complex issues is also essential.

This role requires a solid understanding of federal, state, and local employment legislation such as EEO, ADA, and FMLA, to recommend effective and consistent conflict resolution strategies and oversee aftercare plans to completion. Additional responsibilities include supporting various projects and initiatives within the Employee Relations division and assessing potential risks with ethical decision-making aligned to Maximus's values, ensuring timely reporting and management of issues.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources-related roles.
  • Strong organizational capabilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of human capital management practices, standards, and techniques.
  • Good judgment and abilities in multi-tasking, problem-solving, and time management.
  • Proficiency with Excel is essential; experience with case management systems is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze facts and communicate sensitive case findings and recommendations clearly.
  • An eye for detail in documentation, process adherence, and follow-up activities.
  • Enjoys collaborating across HR, Legal, and related teams to drive solutions and meet business objectives.
