Job description
About the Company
National Vehicle Distribution (NVD) is a family-run organisation that began in 1980 with the goal of helping vehicle manufacturers move products safely and on schedule. The business has grown into a complete outbound logistics partner, offering transport, storage, and vehicle preparation services before final delivery. Since its early years, NVD has also been a leader in digitising the finished vehicle logistics sector, using new technology to improve efficiency, save time, and reduce costs for customers. Continuous improvement and service quality remain central to the company’s approach.
About the Role
NVD is hiring an Employee Relations Specialist to join its People Team. Reporting to the Head of People, this person will take the lead on employee relations matters across the business. The role is focused on helping maintain a workplace that is fair, compliant, and transparent by handling cases with professionalism, legal accuracy, and empathy.
A full, clean driving licence is required because site visits may be needed across locations in Ireland and the UK. Candidates without a driving licence will not be considered. The role may also involve travel to the UK, so applicants must have the right to work in both Ireland and the UK. Anyone who is not eligible in both jurisdictions will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Own employee relations cases from start to finish, including formal investigations, disciplinary processes, and grievance handling.
- Support managers by mediating conflicts and coaching them on managing sensitive or difficult conversations.
- Make sure all ER activity follows relevant legislation and internal policies, and help update the Employee Handbook as laws and rules change.
- Keep accurate, confidential records for every case while meeting GDPR and data protection standards.
- Review ER case patterns and use the findings to suggest training, preventive actions, or culture initiatives that may reduce disputes.
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 2 years’ experience in HR generalist work with a strong employee relations focus, or in a dedicated employee relations case management role.
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a similar discipline; CIPD qualification is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, with Ireland considered essential and UK knowledge preferred.
- Proven ability to carry out investigations using sound judgement and established best practices.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, along with the ability to stay composed and objective in pressured situations.
- Strong discretion and a clear track record of handling confidential information responsibly.
Equal Opportunities
NVD is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace. The organisation values openness, innovation, customer focus, and operational excellence. It does not discriminate on the basis of gender, marital or civil status, family status, age, disability, sexual orientation, race, religion, or membership of the Traveller community, in line with Irish and UK equality laws. The company welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates and aims to create an environment where everyone can contribute and succeed.
