Role Overview
The Employee Relations Advisor plays a vital role within WRI’s Global HR team, reporting to the Head of Employee Relations. This position supports the implementation of WRI’s updated Safe, Equitable, and Inclusive Workplace policy and fosters a fair and respectful organizational culture. The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with possible locations including Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, or Kigali, Rwanda, requiring flexible work hours to accommodate an international workforce across time zones.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure employees are treated fairly and consistently following WRI’s core values.
- Conduct impartial investigations promptly in response to complaints or allegations of misconduct.
- Prepare detailed investigative reports.
- Support and guide HR colleagues in various countries to manage investigations within their jurisdictions.
- Manage the progress of investigations from initial intake to resolution.
- Implement decisions from investigations and conduct necessary follow-ups.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of governance, compliance standards, and legal frameworks relevant to workplace policies.
- Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of investigation records and HR data systems.
- Promote positive employee relations by building and maintaining effective relationships across the organization.
- Conduct training sessions to support policy implementation as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience in employee relations or complaint investigation across multiple countries.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working with international non-profit organizations is an advantage.
- Proven ability to manage complex workplace investigations comprehensively.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant country-specific employment laws and regulations.
- Strong skills in conducting investigatory interviews and analyzing complex situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to produce clear reports and engage all personnel levels.
- Interpersonal skills that support listening, sensitivity, and facilitation within diverse cultural contexts.
- Confident public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or equivalent software.
- Applicants must have existing work authorization; WRI cannot provide visa sponsorship.
