Position Overview

East Kensington Elementary invites applications for a K/1 Elementary Outdoor Education Teacher to provide comprehensive instruction aligned with the British Columbia Ministry of Education curriculum and School Act regulations. This role immerses elementary students in outdoor, inquiry-driven learning, fostering intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth through hands-on experiences.

Surrey Schools recognizes its location on unceded Coast Salish territories, including the q̓ícə̓y̓, Katzie, Kwantlen, and Semiahmoo First Nations. East Kensington Elementary serves approximately 84 students in a rural South Surrey/White Rock setting. Role Responsibilities

• Implement full elementary curriculum as defined by provincial guidelines.
• Deliver instruction that promotes inquiry-based and experiential learning outdoors.
• Engage students in up to four hours daily of outdoor exploration and play.
• Encourage respect and stewardship for nature, promoting ecological awareness.
• Utilize varied natural settings for interdisciplinary learning experiences.
• Collaborate with colleagues, community partners, and district personnel to enhance program quality.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education degree focused on elementary teaching.
• Valid British Columbia Teacher's Certificate.
• At least two years of proven classroom teaching experience.
• Completion of three university-level courses in areas such as Experiential Learning, Outdoor Environmental Education, or Environmental Stewardship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional credentials such as a diploma, post-baccalaureate degree, or Master's degree related to Outdoor Environmental Education or equivalent.

Compensation

Salary ranges from 59711 to 109520 CAD annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and full-time equivalency according to the Collective Agreement. Updates will be applied upon availability of the 2025 salary grid.
