Job description
Job overview
An opportunity has opened to join the Elective & Diagnostic Booking Team at Wexham Park Hospital within the Surgical Directorate. This is a busy, rewarding position where your work will directly support patient care and timely access to surgery and diagnostics.
The role involves managing patient pathways and helping the Trust meet performance targets. It suits someone who enjoys a varied pace, can stay organised under pressure, and is confident handling several priorities at once.
This assignment is to cover a planned extended leave period for six months and is expected to begin in mid-December. Applicants need to be available to start then.
This post can offer valuable NHS experience and may also suit an internal secondment for someone looking to move into a different area of work.
Visa and right-to-work requirements
This role cannot be sponsored under the Skilled Worker route. Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK for the full length of the contract.
Main purpose of the role
You will take responsibility for actively managing waiting lists and work queues so that patients are booked efficiently and in line with Trust and national requirements, including RTT and cancer pathways. You will also arrange theatre lists for surgeons across multiple specialties, working with clinical teams to make the best use of available capacity.
The post requires regular communication with consultants, clinical teams, and other stakeholders to keep elective and diagnostic services running smoothly. You will also be a key contact for patients, giving clear, timely, and compassionate updates throughout their care journey.
A strong customer service approach is essential, along with the ability to work accurately in a high-pressure environment, prioritise effectively, and contribute to ongoing service improvement.
