Job description

Role overview

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Elective Bookings Officer to join the Gynaecology Waiting List Bookings Team at Wexham Park Hospital. This is a permanent Band 3 post for 37.5 hours each week. The role is focused on helping patients move smoothly through their elective inpatient pathway by organising and updating procedure bookings with accuracy and care.

Although the position is based at Frimley Park Hospital, it sits within a busy and supportive NHS environment where every day brings varied administrative work. You will be expected to work both on your own initiative and collaboratively with colleagues to help keep the service running efficiently.

What the role involves

The postholder will manage elective inpatient booking activity, including arranging and changing appointments or procedures as required. The work supports patient care by helping ensure services are delivered promptly and efficiently.

What the team is looking for

The ideal applicant will bring strong organisation, clear communication, and a careful approach to handling information. You should be comfortable managing several priorities at once, adapting to changing demands, and contributing as part of a team while also being confident working independently.

This post offers a strong opportunity to build administrative experience in a busy NHS setting while making a meaningful contribution to patient experience.

Important notice

Previous applicants should not submit another application.

Visa and right-to-work information

This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK for the full length of the contract.

About the organisation

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is an inclusive employer committed to supporting disabled colleagues and recognised with Gold status under the Armed Forces Employment Recognition Scheme. The Trust provides development opportunities across professional, management, leadership, and clinical training areas.

The organisation values work-life balance and welcomes flexible working requests, where possible, to meet both staff needs and service requirements.

The Trust serves more than 900,000 people across Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, and South Buckinghamshire. Its long-term strategy, FHFT 2030, aims to make the Trust the best place to receive care and the best place to work in the NHS, guided by values of excellence, teamwork, future-focused thinking, and compassionate care.

Ongoing investment includes a new hospital at Frimley Park, expansion of diagnostics and inpatient capacity, a new £100m Heatherwood Hospital, a £49m Emergency Assessment Centre at Wexham Park, and a £10m maternity upgrade. Sustainability is also a priority through the NHS Net Zero agenda and the Trust’s green plan, with estate projects designed to be energy efficient and future-ready. Digital improvement is another key focus, including the Epic electronic patient record launched in 2024, which supports safer, more connected, and more efficient care.

Qualifications

You should have GCSE English and Maths at pass level or equivalent, ECDL or an equivalent qualification, and NVQ Level 2 in Administration or comparable practical knowledge.

Experience

Experience working in a hospital or a busy office setting is essential. You should also have experience dealing with challenging patient situations. Experience in a call centre and familiarity with NHS environments are desirable.

Skills and knowledge

Strong verbal and written communication skills, accuracy, attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure, initiative, and high-quality customer service are all essential. Experience handling telephone enquiries and meeting targets is also important. Knowledge of NHS targets and familiarity with clinical and surgical procedures would be an advantage.
