Job description
Role Overview
The Goethe-Institut Boston is looking for an Education Projects Manager for the Transatlantic Outreach Program (TOP), with an intended start date of September 1, 2026. In this position, you will partner with the TOP Managing Director to design and deliver in-person study tours to Germany for educators, support fellows after their tours as they develop curriculum and lead workshops, and oversee the TOP Alumni Network along with related educational and alumni programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist program fellows in building curriculum, review their submissions, and provide constructive feedback.
- Partner with educators to create and publish new social studies and STEM materials focused on contemporary Germany.
- Maintain the digital TOP Lessons Portal and handle distribution and stock control of printed resources.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate virtual professional development sessions about contemporary Germany.
- Manage the TOP Alumni Network and develop new educational and outreach activities.
- Draft and publish social media content that promotes TOP materials, workshops, conferences, study tours, and alumni projects.
- Support workshop leaders by sharing materials and information, and keep records of workshop leadership and attendance.
- Work with team members to plan and deliver professional development study tours in Germany.
- Lead educator groups on ten-day professional development tours in Germany, guide participants, and encourage meaningful discussion.
- Represent the program at national and state educator conferences, including occasional in-person attendance.
- Prepare expense reports and maintain related documentation.
- Update website content as needed.
- Manage contact databases.
Required Qualifications
- Professional fluency in German and English is required; a minimum B2 level is preferred.
- A university degree is required, with an MA or M.Ed. preferred, in education, international affairs, German studies, or a related discipline.
- Applicants should have knowledge of current issues in Germany and the United States, with prior experience living and/or studying in Germany preferred.
- Experience in instructional design and curriculum development is expected; exposure to the U.S. K-12 education system is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with confidence in public speaking, presentations, and online meeting facilitation.
- Interpersonal strengths are important, including the ability to build rapport with new contacts, guide group discussions, manage group dynamics, and handle conflict thoughtfully.
- Technical comfort is needed with Microsoft 365, MS Office, survey and form tools, social media platforms, Canva, website content management systems, and contact database systems.
- Experience using social media for event and project promotion is required.
- The role calls for strong organization, multitasking ability, time management, and close attention to detail.
- Candidates must be able to work on their own, set priorities, and meet deadlines consistently.
- Flexibility is needed for weekday hours and occasional weekend work.
- Applicants must be able to travel for business or training, including trips lasting up to two weeks, and have the proper documentation to enter Germany.
