Job description
Role overview
Torbay Council is looking for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Coordinator to join its SEND Team. The team works on jointly developed Education, Health and Care needs plans for children and young people aged 0 to 25 with special educational needs and disabilities.
In this position, you will work closely with parents and carers, young people, education settings, and colleagues across health and social care to help produce high-quality EHCPs. The job involves reviewing assessments completed by others, translating them into a clear and supportive plan, and taking a restorative, child-centred approach that keeps the child or young person’s voice at the centre of the process.
Key duties
You will need to make sure statutory timescales are met and that casework is handled in line with legal and procedural requirements. The role also calls for strong coordination across multiple professionals and confident communication with families and providers.
Use of case management systems and digital tools will be a regular part of the post, including recording information accurately, tracking progress, managing caseloads, and supporting service performance and reporting needs. You will also be expected to organise a busy workload effectively and maintain timely contact with everyone involved.
Skills, knowledge and experience
Applicants should bring experience of working with children and young people with a range of SEND and their families, along with a solid understanding of current SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice. Familiarity with EHCPs as documents is essential, as is the ability to interpret assessment information and turn it into a robust plan.
Strong written and verbal communication, good relationship-building skills, sound judgement, emotional resilience, and the confidence to handle challenging situations tactfully are all important for this role.
Additional information
There are two vacancies available: one 22.2-hour fixed-term contract lasting 12 months, and one full-time permanent role. The successful applicant will be required to undertake Regulated Activity and must therefore pass an Enhanced Criminal Record Check with an additional Barred List Check. This screening may include spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions that have not been filtered, relevant local police information, and checks against the Adult, Child, or Adult and Child Barred Lists.
The post is not available for visa sponsorship. Interviews are expected to take place during the week beginning 6 July 2026. The closing date is 28 June 2026, although the organisation may close the vacancy early if suitable applications are received sooner.
