The California Film Institute’s Education Department is hiring a highly organized, detail-focused Education Coordinator to support the Mill Valley Film Festival (MVFF). This short-term contract role is centered on planning, coordinating, and delivering festival education programming in partnership with the Education Director and Education Manager.
Through MVFF, the education team brings Bay Area schools into in-person screenings at the Smith Rafael Film Center, online screenings through MVFF Education, and the Filmmakers Go To School initiative. The person in this role should be comfortable in a busy, deadline-driven environment and enjoy collaborating with students, educators, and filmmakers.

- Coordinate festival screenings and work with filmmakers and guest services as needed.
- Support film slotting and schedule planning for MVFF Education titles.
- Draft and refine film summaries and program-facing copy.
- Keep curriculum guide deliverables on track and assist with guide development.
- Monitor and maintain records for films available for online viewing.
Event and Logistics Support
- Help organize special education events and screenings during MVFF.
- Assist with building and updating theater schedules and registration forms.
- Track school sign-ups for MVFF Education screenings.
- Support communication with educators around registrations, confirmations, and general updates.
- Coordinate with bus companies and confirm transportation arrangements for school groups.
Outreach and Marketing
- Support outreach efforts to schools and organizations throughout the Bay Area.
- Help create and share promotional and informational materials.
Festival-Time Support
- Assist with education screening introductions and audience Q&A sessions.
- Lead and support classroom visits by filmmakers through the Filmmakers Go To School program.
- Help staff MVFF Education events, receptions, and screenings throughout the festival.
Qualifications
Applicants should bring prior experience in program or event coordination, ideally within arts, education, or film. Strong organization, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to juggle several deadlines at once are essential. Clear written and verbal communication skills are important, along with comfort using Google Workspace tools such as Docs, Sheets, and Drive, plus basic database systems. Experience with Cinesend or similar digital screening tools is preferred. The role also requires the ability to work independently while contributing well to a team. Experience working with schools or educators is an added advantage. Availability on weekdays and weekends during the festival period is required.
