The team focuses on giving people the information they need to make informed decisions about money, markets, and investing.

The newsroom is fast-moving, collaborative, and constantly evolving, with a strong emphasis on delivering trustworthy information through modern digital workflows and new technologies.

About the Role

Yahoo Finance is hiring an Editor, Content Engagement to oversee how journalism is presented, packaged, and surfaced across desktop, mobile web, and app experiences. The role is responsible for real-time programming choices, optimizing story presentation, and creating concise alerts and headlines that help readers understand why a story matters financially.

The ideal candidate brings strong editorial judgment, a clear sense for visual and headline presentation, and a genuine interest in markets, business, and personal finance. The role also expects comfort working in an AI-assisted environment, using technology to improve speed and scale while protecting accuracy, trust, and editorial standards.

This position follows a consistent weekend schedule, so the usual days off will fall on weekdays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the presentation of Yahoo Finance content across desktop, mobile web, and app surfaces, with emphasis on breaking news, market coverage, analysis, personal finance, and major tentpole moments.
  • Use approved generative AI tools to draft, test, and refine headline and alert variations efficiently, with attention to clarity, reader interest, and click performance.
  • Improve story placement, framing, thumbnails, and recirculation patterns to strengthen engagement and keep the product relevant throughout the day.
  • Work with approved AI-enabled visual tools to quickly iterate on thumbnails and other creative assets based on audience response and timely developments.
  • Write, edit, and publish mobile alerts that are fast, accurate, and useful, turning complex financial developments into plain, urgent language for broad audiences.
  • Rely on analytics tools such as Chartbeat and Google Trends to guide programming, headline strategy, recirculation, and alert decisions.
  • Share performance insights proactively with the newsroom and contribute as a resource at the IC3 level.
  • Support a culture of testing and learning by combining editorial judgment with data-driven experimentation and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Work closely with editors, reporters, video, social, product, and analytics teams to align programming with top editorial priorities and audience opportunities.
  • Coordinate with video teams to identify strong storylines and help package and distribute them across Yahoo Finance platforms.
  • Assess and curate a large amount of syndicated content from multiple providers, choosing stories that match Yahoo Finance’s editorial voice and audience needs.
  • Follow Yahoo policies, exercise sound judgment, work safely and inclusively with others, maintain trust, and protect business operations and brand integrity.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience as an editor in a media organization, including work in digital media, newsroom programming, audience development, or homepage editing.
  • Proven ability to make fast editorial decisions in a high-volume news environment.
  • Comfort using Chartbeat and other real-time analytics tools to track story performance.
  • Hands-on experience with headline writing, content curation, copy editing, SEO, Google Trends, and analytics tools.
  • Strong interest in finance news and in how major developments affect both everyday readers and active investors.
  • Ability to package journalism in ways that increase clicks, engagement, and loyalty while preserving clarity and trust.
  • Experience using generative AI tools such as Google Gemini or ChatGPT for structured prompting, copy refinement, and brainstorming.
  • Strong human review and editorial governance skills, including the ability to fact-check and refine AI-generated output to match brand voice and style.
  • An AI-first mindset with a willingness to identify repetitive work and help design automated or AI-assisted alternatives.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a calm, solution-focused approach during major news events.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in financial journalism, personal finance, investing, or business news.
  • Working knowledge of editorial best practices and style guides.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
