Overview
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) is launching the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) Recruitment for 2026, inviting applications for 1,421 vacancies across various safety and non-safety categories. This recruitment targets 25% of the net Direct Recruitment Quota posts to facilitate internal career advancement for regular employees of the East Coast Railway zone. Educational Qualifications
- Assistant Loco Pilot: 10th pass with relevant ITI/Apprenticeship or 3-year Diploma/Degree in relevant engineering field.
- Station Master: Degree from a recognized university or equivalent qualification.
- Goods Trains Manager: Degree from a recognized university or equivalent qualification.
- Junior Engineer: Relevant 3-year Diploma or 3-year B.Sc. Engineering for civil engineering posts.
- Technician: 10th pass with ITI/apprenticeship relevant to trade.
- Junior Clerk cum Typist: 12th pass with at least 50% marks and typing proficiency in English/Hindi.
- Commercial Clerk cum Ticket Collector: 12th pass with 50% marks; relaxations applicable to eligible categories.
Age Limits (as of January 1, 2027)

- OBC: Up to 45 years
- SC/ST: Up to 47 years

Selection Process
- Computer Based Test (CBT) with varying duration and question count per post
- Computer Based Aptitude Test for Assistant Loco Pilot and Station Master
- Typing Skill Test for Junior Clerk cum Typist
- Document verification and medical examination for shortlisted candidates
- Normalization of scores for CBT across shifts as per Railway Board guidelines
Pay Scale
- Assistant Loco Pilot, Technicians, Junior Clerk cum Typist: Pay Level 2 (₹19,900 to ₹63,200)
- Commercial Clerk cum Ticket Collector: Pay Level 3 (₹21,700 to ₹69,100)
- Goods Trains Manager: Pay Level 5 (₹29,200 to ₹92,300)
- Station Master, Junior Engineer: Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400)
Medical Standards
- Assistant Loco Pilot: A-1 category; 6/6 distant vision without glasses
- Station Master: A-2 category; 6/9 distant vision without glasses
- Goods Trains Manager: A-2 fitness standard
- Junior Engineer: Standards vary by post (A-3/B-1/C-1)
- Technicians: Varies by trade (A-3/B-2)
- Junior Clerk cum Typist: C-2 standard
- Commercial Clerk cum Ticket Collector: B-2 standard
- LASIK surgery disqualifies candidates for A-1/A-2 posts
