Job description
Overview
The Merton Early Years and Children’s Centre requires a dependable and experienced caretaker to oversee several buildings within Merton. This role involves maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff by ensuring the premises and surrounding grounds are safe and well-maintained. Ideal candidates will be proactive team players capable of working independently.
Key Duties
- Manage security procedures by unlocking and locking early years buildings, regularly inspecting alarms, fire safety devices, and emergency exits.
- Address health and safety concerns, perform general repairs, and conduct maintenance tasks during operational hours.
- Carry out groundskeeping tasks such as weeding, litter collecting, and tidying the exterior areas.
Work Schedule
The position requires working various shifts, including early mornings, late evenings (no night shifts), and split shifts aligned with building opening and closing times. Some Saturdays may be required, with overtime compensated at an enhanced rate.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in a similar caretaker or facilities role within public buildings.
- Health & Safety and First Aid certifications are advantageous though not mandatory.
- Background in trades or maintenance is preferred but not essential.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
