Role overview
Kilkenny and Carlow ETB is seeking a qualified teacher for its Further Education and Training provision, with a strong emphasis on high-quality teaching, subject expertise, and professional classroom practice. The post is based at Carlow Institute of Further Education and Training and is offered on a fixed-term basis.

Qualifications and registration
Applicants must satisfy the general and subject-specific criteria set by the Teaching Council of Ireland for the advertised area. A full list of accepted qualifications is available through the Teaching Council’s official guidance.
People in the final year of a degree or postgraduate diploma that will lead to a teaching qualification may also be considered, even if final exams or results are still pending. Any interview invitation or employment offer will depend on the applicant later meeting the vacancy’s registration requirements.
Teaching Council registration is mandatory. Candidates must already be registered with the Teaching Council of Ireland and include either a current registration certificate or confirmation of registration with their application.
Competency expectations
Applicants must submit examples of personal achievements, limited to 300 words per competency, showing how they meet the required teaching competencies. These examples may come from professional, community, or voluntary experience.
- Professional knowledge: strong understanding of the subject area, teaching methods, curriculum requirements, and cross-curricular links.
- Professional practice: ability to plan effectively, create suitable learning materials, manage classrooms well, use varied teaching methods and technology, and assess student progress.
- Communication and relationship building: capability to work constructively with management, colleagues, students, parents, and the wider school community while promoting inclusion and positive relationships.
- Self-awareness and self-management: willingness to reflect, improve continuously, respond well to feedback, maintain professionalism, and work within safeguarding, health and safety, and conduct requirements.
