Job description

Overview

This opportunity is for a Driving Examiner based in Toowoomba, Queensland. The department is recruiting for 1 permanent full-time position and 1 permanent part-time position at 0.6 FTE. The role is centred on practical driving assessments, road safety, and helping ensure applicants meet Queensland Government standards.

As a Driving Examiner, you will assess driver competence, review whether candidates can safely handle vehicles in different traffic and road conditions, and share clear feedback after each assessment. The position suits someone with strong communication skills, a fair and consistent approach, and a clean driving history.

Your work will contribute directly to safer roads and a safer community, while offering a stable and meaningful career in public service.

Key duties

You will carry out practical driving tests and check that applicants meet the required road safety and government standards. You will also evaluate driving technique, knowledge of road rules, and safe vehicle operation across varying conditions.

After each assessment, you will give professional, constructive feedback and apply departmental policies and procedures consistently and fairly. The role also involves supporting road safety awareness and working with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver an efficient service.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a current Queensland driver licence, including an HR (Heavy Rigid) licence that has been held for at least 12 months. Holding an HC (Heavy Combination) licence or an R (motorcycle) licence is considered highly desirable, and higher licence classes are preferred.

You must be eligible to obtain and keep Driving Examiner Accreditation through the Department of Transport and Main Roads. A clean driving record with no significant infringements is required, and you should be willing to travel to nearby centres when needed.

Additional information

Applicants should clearly state on their resume whether they are applying for the full-time or part-time vacancy. Applications will stay active for 12 months. The job advertisement reference is QLD/690942/26, and the closing date is Thursday, 18 June 2026.

The occupational group is Customer Service/Call centre.

Why this role

This position offers the chance to apply your driving knowledge in a role that has a real impact on community safety. You will gain experience in a varied environment, support candidates through the assessment process, and work within a team that values professionalism, development, and ongoing improvement.

If you want a role where your daily work helps make Queensland roads safer, this could be a strong fit.
