About the Role
Join our Street Cleansing Service team as a dedicated Driver/Sweeper to maintain cleanliness, safety, and an inviting atmosphere throughout Reading. This full-time, permanent role operates within the Reading Town Centre, involving driving and manual outdoor cleansing duties, suitable for those who enjoy active, varied work in an outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate electric vehicles and pedestrian mechanical sweeping machines to clean assigned areas.
- Carry out manual street sweeping and litter picking to ensure public spaces remain tidy.
- Maintain and inspect equipment regularly using checklists to ensure operational readiness.
- Comply with all health and safety protocols to guarantee safe working conditions.
- Complete daily activity logs and reports accurately and on time.
- Support the broader street cleansing team as required to achieve service goals.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid UK Category B or C1 driving licence; essential for shortlisting.
- Experience working outdoors in demanding environments, preferably with driving tippers or similar mechanical sweeping machinery.
- Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to work shift hours starting at 5:30 am including some weekends and bank holidays.
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to team contribution and high service standards.
