Role overview

This full-time onsite role is based in Stratford, Ontario, and focuses on assessing driver competence and delivering licensing support services in a fair, professional, and candidate-friendly setting.

What you will do

  • Carry out road tests for G2 and G licence applicants.
  • Where qualified and needed, assess M2, M, and controlled class (ABZ) applicants as well.
  • Review test outcomes, explain licence details, and help resolve licensing-related issues.
  • Support customers with questions about Driver Examination services.
  • Help ensure examinations are conducted fairly and in a way that allows applicants to perform at their best.
  • Deliver strong customer service throughout all Driver Examination interactions.
  • Answer questions about licensing, applicant status, retest steps, and licence classes.
  • Verify each candidate’s identity by confirming their full name and date of birth aloud.
  • Assess driving performance during road tests, including vehicle handling, awareness of traffic rules, response to pressure, safe driving habits, and overall control.
  • Explain test results and point out errors and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Complete evaluation documents for road test assessments.
  • Travel to designated points to provide testing and licensing services when required.
  • For M2, M, and controlled class testing, observe and evaluate riding behaviour, vehicle control, and skill level.
  • Conduct road tests for applicants with special needs or disabilities.
  • Follow all operational rules, including health and safety, environmental, drug and alcohol, and quality requirements.
  • Protect Ministry and operational confidentiality at all times.
  • Carry out other duties related to the role as needed.

Health, safety, and workplace expectations

  • Help maintain a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace at DriveTest centres and travel points.
  • Use required equipment, materials, and protective devices properly.
  • Stay informed about updates to laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Report unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Follow the duties of workers under Part III, Section 27 of the OHSA.

Additional duties and training

  • Comply with Serco Canada Inc. policies and procedures.
  • Take on other assigned tasks, including special projects.
  • Participate in any security measures required by Serco.
  • Complete IDEC testing and both initial and ongoing training for the road test categories you are qualified to examine.

What you need

  • Minimum education of a GED or high school diploma.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
  • At least 4 years of driving experience, verified through the “date first licenced” on the Ontario licence.
  • If applicable, a valid Class M and/or controlled class driver’s licence.
  • No more than 4 demerit points and 3 violations at any time during employment.
  • Preferred familiarity with the DriveTest program, related legislation, regulations, and government/company policies.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • At least 2 years of experience demonstrating strong customer service.

  • Strong customer service and de-escalation skills for complex or difficult situations.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks effectively.
  • Comfort handling sensitive personal information responsibly.
  • Working knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, relevant regulations, and related policies to guide applicants accurately.
  • Sound judgement and confident decision-making.
  • Ability to manage your own schedule within assigned working hours.
  • Understanding of driving behaviour, hazard awareness, accident avoidance, and road test standards.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and compare candidate performance consistently and accurately.
  • Capacity to identify dangerous situations quickly and interpret information efficiently.
  • Ability to explain test expectations clearly and provide feedback in a way that suits the audience and situation.
  • Open to change and supportive of improvements that strengthen organizational effectiveness.
  • Thorough, reliable, and able to produce accurate work.
  • Ability to make timely decisions in challenging situations.
  • Good stress tolerance and self-control when faced with pressure, hostility, or provocation.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and professionally credible.

Working conditions

  • Mental effort is moderate for more than 4 hours per day, or high for 2 to 4 hours per day.
  • Physical effort is moderate for 2 to 4 hours per day.
  • There may be exposure to unpleasant conditions.
  • There is a minor risk of injury, harm, or illness.
  • Work may involve weather-related exposure and vehicle-related exposure.
