Role Overview

This fully funded, four-year doctoral position within the Rinn Centre for BioPharmaceutics at University College Dublin offers an opportunity to conduct advanced research on oral peptide delivery using a novel cell penetrating peptide (HAWC). The candidate will be based in Professor David Brayden's laboratory at the UCD School of Veterinary Medicine and the Conway Institute, working closely with collaborators from Queen's University Belfast and Dublin City University. The role emphasizes independent and collaborative research, with responsibilities extending to participation in seminars, workshops, and engagement with both academic and industrial partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake full-time research focused on oral peptide administration using cell-penetrating peptides.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams within the Rinn Centre and partner institutions.
  • Attend and contribute to seminars, workshops, and academic meetings relevant to the project.
  • Meet all program milestones and maintain thorough, accurate research records.
  • Adhere to ethical standards, regulatory compliance, and health and safety requirements in all research activities.
  • Support broader research and teaching initiatives within the centre and UCD School of Veterinary Medicine.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong academic background in biopharmaceutical sciences or related disciplines, demonstrated by an MSc or a First Class BSc degree.
  • Skilled in designing experiments, collecting data, and analyzing results with quantitative or qualitative laboratory techniques.
  • Capable of conducting independent research, including critical literature evaluation and synthesis of scientific knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills for preparing research papers, reports, and delivering presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively, manage time efficiently, and plan projects within a research context.
  • Commitment to research integrity and compliance with all health, safety, and ethical regulations.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research and willingness to engage with industry and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Previous research experience, publications, or engagement with biopharmaceutical or related industries will be advantageous.

Additional Information

This position provides a tax-free scholarship of 25,000 EUR per annum. EU applicants' tuition fees are covered; however, non-EU candidates must secure approximately 6000 EUR annually to cover tuition charges.
