Position Overview
The dispatcher acts as the central liaison between our box truck drivers and both internal and external customers. This role is responsible for gathering, organizing, and utilizing information from various sources to develop optimal delivery and pickup routes and schedules that align with company objectives. The dispatcher also keeps customers informed with timely updates, especially when changes arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement processes to streamline pick-up and delivery operations and enhance communication among dispatchers, drivers, and clients.
- Produce daily driver task lists including expected timings, route sequences, load information, and relevant references such as purchase or transfer order numbers.
- Address and resolve driver issues that they cannot handle independently.
- Coordinate with company vendors and customers to ensure scheduling meets operational requirements.
- Assemble, review, and manage daily movement schedules for internal dissemination and operational planning.
- Work collaboratively with logistics team members and third-party services to fulfil daily transport needs.
- Occasionally travel to assist drivers and liaise with vendors as necessary.
- Maintain current contact details for stakeholders both inside and outside the organization.
- Keep an informal inventory of company-owned carts and materials lent to vendors for transporting goods.
- Partner with the logistics manager to identify and implement training and coaching for drivers and relevant staff.
- Arrange both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in cooperation with the maintenance supervisor.
- Optimize driver productivity during downtime with tasks like vehicle washing, detailing, maintenance, and alternate assignments within the company.
- Provide backup support for box truck drivers when needed.
- Maintain forklift certification to assist with loading/unloading and internal material handling.
- Manage pickup and delivery of company-branded carts.
- Perform additional duties and adapt to evolving company needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license and successful background check.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Completion of company certification for operating an electric pallet jack.
- Capability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods.
- Effective professional communication skills in various settings.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel functions such as tables, pivot tables, and familiarity with SAP BusinessOne software.
