Job description
Role summary
This position focuses on keeping enterprise disaster recovery capabilities ready and effective across infrastructure, applications, network layers, and data center environments. The core objective is to plan, run, govern, and continuously strengthen recovery processes so that business services remain protected, service interruptions are minimized, and SLA, compliance, and regulatory obligations are met.
Role overview
The selected professional will contribute to and carry out organization-wide disaster recovery initiatives. This includes yearly recovery planning, execution of DR drills, process automation efforts, and close coordination with stakeholders across functions. The role is expected to operate at L3 / SME level, with proven hands-on experience in live DR drills rather than only planning activities. A solid grasp of IT infrastructure, application dependencies, network design, and DR governance is essential. Experience in banking or another regulated environment is preferred.
Key responsibilities
The role covers disaster recovery planning and governance, execution of drills, documentation control, issue closure, and continual process improvement.
- Maintain the IT disaster recovery plan and refresh it every year in line with audit, compliance, and business continuity needs.
- Help define the DR approach, scope, and execution model for scheduled recovery activities.
- Make sure DR planning is consistent with infrastructure, application, and regulatory expectations.
- Follow testing schedules and execution timelines with full discipline.
- Ensure compliance with audit requirements and regulatory standards during recovery activities.
- Prevent SLA breaches during DR execution.
- Complete incident documentation and closeout within agreed timelines.
- Support and run DR drills, including failover and failback across all IT towers.
- Coordinate execution smoothly while keeping service disruption to a minimum.
- Check that RTO and RPO targets are achieved during drills and provide post-execution analysis.
- Act as the main coordination point between cross-functional teams during both planning and execution.
- Define the scope of recovery exercises, including systems, applications, and environments.
- Adjust planned drills based on inclusion/exclusion lists and changing business requirements.
- Ensure the scope matches business criticality and application tiering.
- Keep disaster recovery runbooks current with accurate recovery steps.
- Ensure all DR documentation is audit-ready and aligned with the live environment.
- Maintain DR records for ISO, audit, and regulatory compliance.
- Support automation initiatives that improve execution speed and reduce manual effort.
- Identify ways to improve DR processes, tooling, and execution methods.
- Plan and support tabletop sessions to validate readiness with IT stakeholders.
- Ensure all teams are prepared before live DR drills begin.
- Record drill incidents, observations, and deviations during execution.
- Track issues through closure and ensure root-cause analysis and preventive actions are completed.
- Maintain the DR risk register and follow up until items are closed.
Technical environment knowledge
The role requires practical understanding of infrastructure and application integrations, external network setups used for transaction processing and dependent subsidiaries, and application tiering classifications that determine recovery priority.
Required skills and experience
The candidate should bring strong disaster recovery execution experience, especially in live drill environments, along with a deep understanding of recovery governance and enterprise IT operations.
- Strong command of disaster recovery and business continuity principles.
- Working knowledge of infrastructure components such as Unix, Windows, storage, and backup systems.
- Understanding of network architecture and failover mechanisms.
- Familiarity with data center operations and replication technologies.
- Knowledge of RTO, RPO, replication methods, and DR orchestration.
- Understanding of application dependencies and tiering models.
- Experience running planned and unplanned DR drills.
- Ability to create, maintain, and improve runbooks.
- Experience in incident handling and root-cause analysis.
- Strong cross-team coordination in large enterprise settings.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
- High ownership and the ability to stay effective in critical, high-pressure scenarios.
Additional notes
Preferred background includes exposure to regulated or banking environments. The role calls for close adherence to compliance expectations and the ability to manage sensitive recovery situations with discipline and precision.
