About the Company
Our firm is a global investment platform specializing in real estate, private equity, and special situations across major markets including the UK and US. Currently, the company is expanding rapidly with a robust pipeline of deals, complex transactions, and an increasing focus on evaluating operating businesses, venture-backed startups, and platform opportunities across diverse sectors. The team operates mainly in the US and UK, valuing speed, sound judgment, analytical rigor, and ownership. This is a founder-led, lean environment offering genuine responsibility, direct interaction with senior leadership, and the opportunity to shape the investment platform.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Venture Investments to identify, assess, and execute venture and growth-stage investments, primarily within the San Francisco Bay Area and Palo Alto ecosystem. The ideal candidate will possess strong transaction judgment, a credible local network, and the ability to independently manage sourcing, diligence, deal execution, and portfolio support functions. They should be adept at spotting promising founders, sectors, and platform opportunities early, and apply the necessary analytical rigor including market sizing, product-market fit evaluation, capital requirement assessment, business quality analysis, and downside risk mitigation. This director-level position has a defined path to principal-level leadership for the right fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and cultivate investment opportunities across venture capital, growth equity, and adjacent special situations with emphasis on Bay Area deals.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with founders, venture funds, angel investors, operators, advisors, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of companies covering market dynamics, products, teams, traction, unit economics, competitive landscape, and scalability potential.
- Lead or assist in financial modeling, capitalization table reviews, valuation analyses, scenario planning, and deal structuring.
- Organize due diligence activities spanning commercial, financial, legal, tax, technical, and reference investigations.
- Prepare and present investment committee documents, internal reports, and presentations for senior leadership review.
- Support negotiation and closing processes including term sheets, definitive agreements, co-investment setups, and related transaction steps.
- Contribute to strategic efforts involving investment themes, sector mapping, portfolio strategy, and expanding market presence in technology and innovative sectors.
- Oversee portfolio company monitoring and assist with value creation strategies, follow-on financing, and key operational decisions as needed.
- Help develop the firm’s venture investing capabilities, sourcing framework, and strengthen its presence within the startup and investment community.
Required Qualifications
- Substantial experience in venture capital, growth equity, private equity, investment banking, or a similarly demanding investment or transaction role.
- Exceptional investment judgment with the ability to assess early-stage and scaling companies.
- Proven track record of evaluating and executing private investments, financings, or strategic transactions.
- Strong financial modeling, analytical skills, and effective presentation abilities.
- Established network within the San Francisco Bay Area and Palo Alto venture ecosystem across founders, investors, operators, or intermediaries.
- Capacity to juggle multiple live projects with acute attention to detail and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a lean, entrepreneurial, founder-driven environment with significant independence.
Preferred Experience
- Previous role at a venture capital or growth equity firm.
- Familiarity with sectors such as software, fintech, AI, consumer internet, enterprise tech, digital infrastructure, or other innovation-led fields.
- Experience with cross-border investing, founder-led enterprises, or complex capital structures.
- History of independently sourcing deals or materially contributing to investment origination.
- Ability to combine thematic investment research with direct transaction management.
- Keen commercial instinct on what makes venture-backed companies resilient, financeable, and strategically significant.
What This Position Offers
- Direct collaboration with senior leadership on impactful investment decisions.
- Opportunity to shape and grow the firm’s venture investing platform.
- Significant responsibility in sourcing, diligence, deal execution, and portfolio management.
- A lean startup-like environment with rapid growth prospects based on performance.
- Clear trajectory toward broader investment leadership and principal track progression.
