Role overview
Newark Unified School District is seeking a Director of Student Service and Alternative Education to lead alternative education and student services work under the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services. This is a full-time, onsite role with a 220-day work year.
What the role covers
The director will coordinate, guide, and assess alternative education schools and programs as well as student services operations. The role includes leadership for continuation education, independent study, Adult Transition, Extended School Year, Summer School, and other extended learning opportunities supported by multiple funding sources.
In addition, the position is responsible for student enrollment, student records, child welfare and attendance programs, and other student support services. The successful candidate will help ensure district practices meet state and federal standards, create and update policies, regulations, and procedures, and supervise and evaluate staff in ways that promote equitable access, engagement, and student success.
Application requirements
Applicants must submit a transcript copy, a letter of introduction, three letters of recommendation dated within the last 12 months, a resume, and an Administrative Services Credential. A master’s degree is required, though an advanced degree is preferred.

There is one opening for this position. The posted salary range is $154,213 to $185,797 per year. Newark Unified School District also offers retirement contributions, a $1,000 master’s stipend limited to two recipients, and a $2,000 doctorate stipend limited to one recipient.
