Position Overview

This highly visible leadership role is integral to the operations team. The Director of Warehouse Operations directs and guides operational policies, objectives, and initiatives. Responsibilities include developing, executing, maintaining, and enhancing operational activities within assigned Transportation and Distribution facilities. The focus is on delivering excellent service to customers through quality, productivity, safety, loss prevention, and positive employee relations. The role requires evaluating current and proposed systems and processes and implementing necessary changes, leveraging extensive experience and judgment, while exercising considerable creativity and discretion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain business plans covering all aspects of logistics operations including program requirements, labor hours, production cycles, costs, and company image.
  • Establish production and quality control benchmarks; develop budgets and cost management strategies; gather data on product specifications, quantities, and delivery schedules.
  • Guide the creation of logistics process plans addressing personnel, materials, subcontracting, facility, and equipment needs.
  • Ensure adherence to cost, quality, and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate logistics activities across the organization and with suppliers to maximize efficiency of human resources, machinery, and equipment.
  • Manage operational expenses aggressively through financial analysis.
  • Review production and operational reports; lead problem-solving efforts to minimize costs and avoid delays.
  • Define roles and responsibilities within the team to meet business goals effectively.
  • Oversee distribution functions including shipping/receiving, picking/packing, and inventory management.
  • Handle rapid carton throughput processes such as import deconsolidation and domestic consolidation.
  • Supervise store delivery operations such as unloading, sorting, palletizing, load out, and ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Manage domestic pickup and delivery logistics.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies to boost labor productivity and accuracy while upholding safety and cleanliness.
  • Lead managerial activities including mentoring, coaching, conducting performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and recruitment interviews.
  • Foster leadership development and talent growth among staff.
  • Promote a high-performance culture focused on employee empowerment and engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with company, governmental, and customer policies and regulations by all team members.
  • This position requires full-time on-site presence.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage up to 6 direct reports and more than 300 indirect staff members.
  • Conduct hiring, training, work assignment, performance appraisals, disciplinary measures, and conflict resolution following organizational policies and legal requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years in a dynamic warehousing environment with progressively greater responsibility.
  • Proven track record managing expanding warehousing operations.
  • Experience working in third-party logistics settings supporting multiple clients or business lines is advantageous.
  • Expertise collaborating with customers to refine operations and achieve superior results.
  • Experience in contract negotiation or expansion with customers.
  • Successful implementation and management of key performance indicators, with accountability for results.
  • Strong financial acumen including P&L management and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Lean methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks.
  • Proficient in warehouse management and transportation management systems (WMS and TMS).
  • Capable of building effective partnerships with remote headquarters and functional teams, with a problem-solving orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate a culture founded on trust, high performance, and teamwork.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills.
