We're inviting a seasoned communications expert to join us as Director of Technology Communications, based in Mountain View, CA. This role operates in a hybrid work environment, merging remote and office-based days based on team requirements.
The Director will drive global communication strategies highlighting LinkedIn's technological advancements, focusing on AI, innovation, and infrastructure underpinning the professional network. Collaborating closely with engineering leaders and the CTOs of Engineering and Infrastructure, the Director will craft engaging stories translating complex tech achievements into clear narratives for diverse external audiences including media, creators, customers, policymakers, and business executives.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and lead strategic direction for technology storytelling centered on engineering, AI, and product innovation, balancing long-term narratives with current trends.
- Oversee and mentor the Technology Communications team, managing goal development, prioritization, feedback, and career growth.
- Develop and sustain relationships with industry influencers, including business and tech trade media, creators, and independent platforms.
- Manage content across LinkedIn Technology’s external platforms such as the Engineering blog and Showcase page.
- Ensure engineering blog content and tech milestone publications uphold rigor, alignment with company goals, and messaging consistency.
- Lead the thought leadership efforts for CTOs of Engineering and Infrastructure by shaping narratives, media interactions, and strategic content that underscore LinkedIn’s technological innovations.
- Coach engineering executives for media engagements, enhancing their external presence.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, global communications, Economic Graph, and legal teams to develop clear, credible stories from complex technologies.
- Implement effective workflows and decision-making frameworks balancing speed with accuracy.
- Form collaborative partnerships across communications teams globally to adapt storytelling to local contexts while maintaining consistency and rigor.
- Advise senior leadership on technology narratives and public messaging to influence external discourse.
Qualifications
- Over 11 years of experience in public relations or external communications.
- More than 7 years managing people and teams.
- Proven ability to design and execute communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Strong strategic mindset combined with exceptional editorial decision-making.
- Extensive collaboration experience with technical teams and cross-functional partners globally.
- Confident executive presence and skill in achieving alignment with senior leaders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including advising top leadership.
- Capability to operate effectively within complex, matrixed, and global organizations.
- A composed, assured leadership approach, especially in ambiguous or sensitive situations.
- Exceptional leadership qualities promoting empowerment, collaboration, and high-performance standards.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers an annual salary range of $180,000 to $282,000, dependent on individual qualifications, experience, certifications, and job location. Compensation may include annual bonuses, stock options, benefits, and other incentive plans aligned with LinkedIn's policies.
