About the Role
Our client, a respected construction firm based in the Twin Cities area, is seeking a Director of Strategic Growth to join their leadership team. This role focuses on cultivating strategic business development, expanding key account relationships, identifying lucrative opportunities, and steering pursuit efforts in alignment with organizational growth ambitions. The ideal candidate is an experienced, relationship-oriented leader who builds long-term value through trust, market knowledge, and disciplined execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and nurture trusted relationships with owners, developers, industrial clients, architects, engineers, brokers, and decision-makers.
- Design and implement strategic account plans for core clients to encourage repeat business through proactive engagement.
- Document, communicate, and ensure fulfillment of client commitments.
- Conduct market analysis to pinpoint growth sectors, target markets, and valuable clients.
- Track industry trends, development initiatives, procurement alterations, and competitor actions to shape business growth strategies.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align growth plans with company goals.
- Develop and maintain a qualified pipeline of business development prospects, including forecasting opportunities with a focus on profitability and competitive positioning.
- Lead evaluation of potential projects, including negotiated and design-build bids, considering strategic alignment, risk, capacity, and profit potential.
- Develop winning strategies emphasizing client value and differentiation, working closely with estimating, preconstruction, and operations teams.
- Manage client discovery meetings, presentations, proposals, and interviews, tailoring communication to client objectives.
- Coordinate internal teams for effective pursuit execution and support contract negotiations and client onboarding.
- Promote interdepartmental collaboration to ensure clear communication of client expectations through project transitions.
- Act as an ambassador for the organization within the market.
Qualifications
- Minimum seven years of experience in commercial or industrial construction.
- Demonstrated success building client relationships and procuring profitable work.
- Experience with negotiated contracts, design-build projects, and relationship-driven opportunities.
- Strong knowledge of construction estimating, preconstruction, project delivery methods, contracts, and risk management.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Proven ability to oversee strategic accounts and manage business development pipelines.
- Strong business insight focused on profit and long-term value creation.
- Highly organized with dependable follow-through and accountability.
- Collaborative approach working across departments and stakeholders.
